Checkups are painful because of what you might find. From a physical standpoint, we need to get a regular checkup by a doctor or by a dentist. Everybody can look back personally or in their family and see results, good and bad, from getting a checkup. For a business owner, painful checkups are necessary so you can get stuff fixed. No matter how big or small your company is, you need somebody else that can give you what you need to fix your stuff, in case you can’t. Learn the five questions you can ask other business owners you trust that you could use to triangulate with and help you fix your problems.

This is where my wife and I live life. If we see or hear something that stings people a little bit, rubs them the wrong way but they take that information, turn it into action and it grows their company. We make a note of that and we are for sure to podcast on that. This episode is a perfect example of this; I don’t know how many times I’ve given out this little nugget. Usually people don’t want to hear any of it, it’s very uncomfortable.
When they do it, the results are quite extraordinary. I call this The Checkup. We will all agree that from a physical standpoint, we need to get a regular checkup by a doctor, by a dentist. Everybody can look back personally or in their family and see results, good and bad, from going to get a checkup.
Checkups are painful because of what you might find. They’re emotionally painful upfront because it’s fear, false evidence appearing real. I’m recommending that everybody in our audience, no matter how big or small your company is, you find three business owners that you trust, quite frankly, that you don’t know that well and that don’t know you that well. You can do this with one or two. I haven’t seen it work that well but three’s the magic bullet because you might see a pattern with three.
Here’s what you ask them, “Would you do me a favor, Bob or Susie or whoever it is? I want you to Google my personal name. Here’s how you spell it. I’d like you to Google my company name, here’s how you spell it. I would like you to answer these five questions after twenty minutes of you perusing what comes up under my personal name and my business name. Question number one, what do you think I do for a living or we as a company? What do you think we do for a living?
Number two, who do you think our audience is? Number three, what would you say are my strengths or our strengths? If you’re a company, what do you think are our strengths? Number four, did you notice anything missing? Was there something you were expecting to see that you didn’t see? Then number five, do you have any recommendations after looking at everything? Do you have any knee-jerk recommendations?’”
You take their written responses, you bring them to people that can make these changes and fix it. If you’re not a web person, bring it to somebody that’s a web person. You can use what you learned in episode 317 called Politics, that I did with my wife and you triangulate with someone else that can fix your stuff. You find somebody else that can give them what they need to fix your stuff, in case you can’t. Very short podcast, but incredibly powerful. Matter of fact, I would love two things if you don’t mind.
If the results of this short podcast do something for you, meaning you bring it to three people, they point things out, you make the corrections and that you can physically tell it did something for you or your company, would you please let me know at Ken@IncomeStore.com. This is something that I need to teach a lot more often. It’s very painful, but very powerful. I’d love some current testimonials with today’s climate of what this is doing for people.
If any of my podcast hit you, if you could do me a favor, I’m very close to 100 reviews. If you can go to a laptop or a desktop, doesn’t work on a phone or a tablet, but jump into iTunes and throw me an honest review, good or bad. When I get over 100, I’m pretty sure that’s when iTunes throws the podcast back into noteworthy news. It gives the podcast another 90-day burst of eyeballs, puts it in front of 80 million people for some time. Very close, I’m over 80% of the way with the reviews, but don’t do a review if you don’t want to do a review. Hope that helps, you guys are awesome. Take care. Bye.
