In life, be it personal or professional, there are a lot of people who are willing to give their opinions whether they’re warranted or not. These opinions however can take a toll in how we do things. They affect our efficiency and push us off the track towards our goals. Do not get sidetracked by the people who are not on track. Surround yourself with those who have your best interest in them.

Sidetracked
Here’s a podcast on something that I caught. We had some family over. We had some friends over. I had a family member walk up to me and make a couple of comments. Their business is growing pretty well. They’re getting some pretty good recognition, some financial rewards after many years. However, something came up and I found myself saying, “You can’t get sidetracked by people that are not on track,” and they were like, “What are you talking about?” I said, “Here’s the key. What are you trying to grow? Who is currently influencing your decisions? Are they on the same growth track? Are they on a bigger, faster track? Are they a mentor of yours? Do they have your best interest in mind?”
You can’t get sidetracked by people that are not on track. Click To TweetThis person was looking at me a little bit funny. I said, “Here’s a deal. From what I’m hearing, the person whose opinion you are looking forward to hearing, they’re not on any track at all. This person is your neighbor.” To give you some detail, this family member was concerned with what a neighbor thought of one of their presentations because this neighbor is their friend. I get it, but the reality is we cannot get sidetracked by people that are not on track. This person who wanted to provide an opinion of one of my family’s presentations, their opinion is meaningless.

They’re not on any track. They’re not a growth track. They’re not on a fast track to anything. I don’t want to call out this family member per set, but without getting too deep, I said, “You find people that are growing substantially faster than you and you ask their opinion of your presentation.” We cannot get sidetracked by people that are not on track. I hope this helps. Take care.
