After going to men’s meeting this week Ken had a rather profound chat with one gentleman about money. You won’t believe what happened next. Listen in to find out your combination for making money.

Become a Money Magnet
This is the podcast where for years you have heard my wife and I say, “We live life.” If we bump into a situation where we hear a business nugget dropped, we write it down and make sure we podcast about it or if we’re in a situation where we can tell that something we said impacted somebody whether from a stage or in a one-on-one setting, we make sure we go in the hall, write it down and make sure we podcast on that. I got up. I have three podcasts all scripted out and then I lived through something that has forced me to move those podcasts later because I want to walk you through something that happened as I think it could benefit a lot of people. I’m in part of something called Master’s Men. I live in a small town called Minooka, Illinois just Southwest of Chicago. Although our town only has 8,000 people, men come in from multiple different towns. We meet in the basement of a church and we just talk. There are sometimes 30 men, sometimes 55. Our talk was very, very deep. We hit on everything from there was a well-known woman, a strong Christian lady church-going who took her own life. There was another gentlemen, it was driving him nuts that he is working so hard. His wife is working so hard and they just barely can breathe financially and yet he looks around and he sees other people just breezing through life financially just anything they want to buy. They can buy it. Anything they touch turns to gold and he was somewhat distraught. We were covering topics for an hour and a half that we have not covered in a long, long time. It was an awesome men’s group.
However, I took the liberty of taking the gentleman aside after the men’s group. I took him into a private room and we talked a little bit about his financial situation and we got into a debate on something called Reticular Activation as well as Jack Canfield famously talks about a combination lock and he says, “If you look at a combination lock and if you know the numbers and if you know the order in which the numbers need to be put into that combination block like two turns to the right, hit this number, one turn to the left, hit this number, two turns to the right, hit this number. If you know the numbers and you know the order, it has to open. That lock doesn’t care if you’re eight years old or nine years old. It doesn’t care if you’re educated or not educated.” I was trying to explain to this young man that making money and running a successful business and having income on top of a job, it’s the same as the combination lock. If you know the numbers and you know the order, it has to open for you. The debate was, “Am I or are other certain people cursed where they’re just going to settle for a certain lot in life?” We were battling. I explained to him something called Reticular Activation. I’ve podcasted on it a couple times but I need to review it because it’s part of what I want to cover in this podcast.
It goes like this. I said to the young man, “Not the car you’re driving now, not the car before this car but what was your car before that?” He goes, “Right now I’m in a Ford fusion. Before that, I had a brand new Dodge Truck. Before that, I drove a beat up junky Chevy S-10.” I said, “Great. I want you to go back to those days when you were driving around in that Chevy S-10. When you were in that vehicle, did you not notice every other Chevy S-10 of the same year on the road?” He goes, “Yeah, constantly.” I said, “What do you drive now?” He goes, “I drive a Ford Fusion.” I said, “Are you still noticing all the Chevy S-10s all over the place?” He goes, “Come to think of it, no.” I said, “Do you notice all the 2017 Ford Fusions?” He goes, “Come to think of it, I see them all over the place now.” I said, “That’s called reticular activation. Your mind understands what you’re in in life right now. Right now, you’re driving physically in a Ford Fusion. Your mind knows that. It is open to that. It’s receiving that and it’s showing you the Ford Fusions that you’re already in. Does this make sense?” He’s like, “It does, actually.” I said, ” Number one, when it comes to making money, there are only two vehicles you’re currently driving. One, where your mind says, “I’m moving forward and I’m making more money or I’m in a different vehicle that says I’m actually stopped in park or I’m actually going backwards and I’m repelling money.”” He gave me what’s called the famous, “Who farted?” look meaning, “What are you talking about?” I said, “Just follow me on this.”
Money is a magnet to two things, true value and a person that is receiving more money. Then he was again totally confused. I said, “Let’s put it to you this way. When you’re in the vehicle of collecting more money, you’re going to go through life, tomorrow, you might be at a 7/11 and you overhear a conversation of a guy you went to high school with. You haven’t even talked to him in twenty years, but you overhear this man saying, ” I’m looking for somebody that can donate about eight hours a week for the next twelve Saturdays. I don’t live in town but I just bought an apartment complex. The person that can give me these Saturdays and helped me rehab this place, if they’re interested, they could take over the management of my building and just make sure the grass is cut. I’m going to give them 5% of the equity of that building.” I said to this young man, “If you overheard that conversation, what would you do?” He goes, “I’d volunteer right now. I get 5% of the equity and 5% of the cashflow just for managing and cutting the grass. Who wouldn’t?” I said, “Here’s the deal. You’re not currently in a vehicle that’s going to hear that conversation. Your vehicle’s in park or maybe even going backwards. That conversation is happening all around you but your dial is not tuned to receive it.” He’s like, “Ken, I’m not totally catching this.” I said, “Do you believe me if I tell you right now there’s country music in the airwaves of this room?” He goes, “Huh?” I said, “Is there rock and roll music? Is there a news radio? If I pull up an analog radio and I turned the dial to AM 780, am I going to get WBBM News?” He said, “Yes.” I said, “If I turned it to FM 98.3, am I getting WCCQ Country?” He goes, “I see.”
I said, “The country music’s in the airwaves but we have to turn the radio dial to receive the country music signal.” He started to nod his head. I said, “Trust me. Your dial is not tuned to receive income-making opportunities. It is not tuned to any station right now. You don’t even have your radio turned on.” He goes, “I’m starting to get it. What do you suggest I do? Cut to the chase. Master’s Men is over. We got to get out of here.” I said, “Fine. Follow me on this. I have a podcast done a couple years ago called The Success Wheel.” He goes, “Can you give me the CliffsNotes?” I said, “Fine, it’s really simple. In the early ‘90s, I was like you. I was screaming at myself saying, “How come all these other people are just tripping over cash and I’m killing it eighteen hours a day, but the cash isn’t rolling in? I knew there was so much about making money, I didn’t know when I was 22 years old. I began to go to conferences.” Again he gave me the, “Who farted?” look. I said, “Just bear with me. Picture a wheel, the bottom left of my wheels called The Success Wheel is I knew there was a lot I didn’t know, so I started to go on conferences. Every time I’d go to one of these conferences like at Brian Tracy or Tony Robbins or Dave Ramsey that helps you save money.” He goes, “I’m in the Dave Ramsey program.” I said, “Great, he holds conferences all the time. Every time I would go to these conferences, these people from stage would recommend incredible books like Think and Grow Rich, How to Win Friends & Influence People. They would always recommend the same ten books. I always found that fascinating because they didn’t gain anything by recommending these books, but they would credit a lot of their success to these books. I began reading every book ever mentioned and I would seek out industry leaders and asked them, “What book are you reading?” and I became a book junkie. For 25 years, I’ve averaged about a book a week. These books built up the bottom of my circle, the bottom of my success wheel. It holds a bucket called intellectual property or wisdom or knowledge.” He goes, “I think I’m following you.”
“Here’s the deal though, the depth of your bucket, the width of your bucket, the enormity of your bucket in the industry that you’re in directly correlates to the reticular activation. Let me put it to you a better way. The bigger your bucket of your industry knowledge, the more of a magnet you’re going to be to the right side of the success wheel, which is people. The people are directly going to bring you business or business ideas or financial opportunities. That’s the bottom right of the success wheel. Let me diagram this for you. The bottom left is you go to conferences. These conferences are going to recommend books, that’s the top left of the circle. The books are going to fill you with intellectual property or life’s wisdom about the topics you’re seeking. It could be just self improvement. It could be industry knowledge, it doesn’t matter. There are conferences for everything you want to go get. There are books for everything you want to go get. I promise you, the numbers of the combination lock are the fact that you’re going to dig into these books. You’re going to listen to these people mentoring you from stage and from books, and you are going to build a wealth of knowledge.
The conferences and the books are going to give you the numbers to the combination but the order in which you use those numbers comes from the people you meet and the business transactions or opportunities they bring to you. Then you simply choose which of those to accept and that shows you which order in which you turn your numbers.” He said, “I’ve got to be honest, I’m starting to get this.” I said, “Now, I’ve got to leave. Let me at least give you three suggestions, if you don’t know where to begin here. If you’re on the path and you know one thing you need to or you want to make more money and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to do that because it’s the right thing to do for your family, start with conferences. Let me give you three suggestions. Success Resources has a thing called MMI. I think it might even be free, Millionaire Mind Intensive. They got 50, 60 of these camps going on every week, every month all over the country, all over the world. I think they’re even free. My wife and I mentor the Success Resources GMP, that’s the Global Mastermind Program. I think a lot of these people came to the GMP through something called the MMI, the Millionaire Mind Intensive. I’m 90% sure it’s free. Tony Robbins has a base program called Unleash the Power Within. I read the book of that in 1994. It changed my life. I’ve been to one of the events. It is life-changing and he recommends countless books from that stage. Then I hold an event every year. It used to be twice here, now we’re just doing it in October in LA called Digital Footprint.
If you cannot afford to go to Digital Footprint, email me, Ken@IncomeStore.com. Explain to me why you can’t afford it and I will find a way to sponsor you into that event. Some of the regular speakers that speak at every Digital Footprint are friends of ours, Jeff Hoffman, the co-founder of Priceline.com. Brian Smith, the founder of UGG Boots. David Corbin, the author of the famous business book Illuminate. Greg Reid, author of 54 books including Three Feet from Gold. If you have not read Three Feet from Gold or Illuminate, shame on you. I want everybody listening to this, if this is the path you want to go down, it’s the path I took. It’s the path I just recommended it to this young man. I need a favor. I need you to do exactly what a mentor of mine asked me to do. That was start with these books: Psychology of Selling, Think and Grow Rich and University of Success. Psychology of Selling is Brian Tracy, Think and Grow Rich is Napoleon Hill and University of Success is Og Mandino. I recommend you read these books once a year first with a yellow highlighter. The first two books are quick reads. You can read through them really quickly. Read them with a yellow highlighter. Then I want you to pick them up a year later with an orange highlighter. I want you to email me a year later when you’ve done this with an orange highlighter. I want you to email me when you think you should and that’s all I’m going to say. You will definitely know when you go through that book a second time with a different color highlighter. You’ll know exactly what I’m referring to as your experience with that book will not be anything similar to the experience you had with that book the year before.
Then finally, University of Success is a mammoth of a book. I think it’s 700 pages but it’s a game changer. Og Mandino who went down in history is considered one of the greatest self-improvement experts of all time. Many, many of the greats now studied under Og. When Og was on his death bed he said, “How can I truly give back one last time to mankind?” He went into his library and he looked at the 52 books that most impacted his life and he took the five to ten best pages of the best 52 books and he put them into one culmination book called University of Success so that anybody without a even a high school degree can start on chapter one, which is somewhat simple and fundamental. Chapter four, I remember vividly, is I’m failure symptoms and it just builds and builds and builds. Then over a year’s time you do one little eight-page chapter a week and a year later you have literally just went through a University of Success. I truly believe with that book alone, if you read it twice, you could probably run a company of any size. It’s truly amazing. I think this is one of the strongest podcast I’ll ever do. For Today’s Growth Growing Business today, tomorrow and forever, I am Ken Courtright. I hope this helps. Take care.
