Press The Flesh To Grow

This is called Press the Flesh. Does anybody wonder why every couple of years politicians get out of their offices and actually go on the road and shake hands and do stump speeches night after night? There’s a reason. If they don’t do it and this goes for the veterans. I think this gentleman has won 24 times in a row. He’s in his upper 70s and he is still out there doing it again. The reason they press the flesh and shake hands is if you want to win, if you want to sell your story, if you want the opportunity to tell your story again, you must be seen face-to-face.

Shake hands because if you want to win and want to sell your story, you must be seen face to face. Click To Tweet

Let me ask you something. You know that Kerri and I speak all over the world. We do training, we do bootcamps, we do mastermind groups. We are always out there pressing the flesh. When was the last time you or a member of your upper management have gone out and been pressing the flesh, shaking hands? When was the last time you put a member of your team purposefully in the spotlight so that maybe they can get caught on camera for publicity? Do some deep thinking. Where can we get out and be seen? Where can we tell our story? Some quick ideas that jumped to mind. I don’t care if you’re a service business, I don’t care if you have a product. I don’t care what you do. You could literally be a defense contractor.

There are events that you can go to. There are conferences you can go to. You can sponsor them. You can have a booth, you could speak on their stage. As a matter of fact, how about this. You could create a conference, you could create an association. It’s 2019 and the Time Magazine article from 2005 where Bill Gates said, “The companies that can combine high tech with high touch are going to win.” That was several years ago. The more digitally advanced we become. I did a presentation to a gentleman showing them the artificial intelligence on the back end of our Shopify stores. He was blown away that our AI can tell us when people are on our site craving products we don’t have.

Shaking Hands In Business: Real big businesses are cemented when people meet people.

He was like, “That’s just amazing.” Here’s the deal. It doesn’t matter how high tech we get. If I can get more people at more events, either onstage or having a booth or shaking hands. Real big business is done and big business is cemented when people meet people. I want you to get off this blog, get out a piece of paper and write twenty different ways you or your team could press the flesh, shake hands in the next twelve months. The real answer, the one that’s going to work for you is probably going to be the one that’s number sixteen to twenty on your sheet. It’s going to be the answer that doesn’t come off the top of your head. You’re going to have an a-ha moment going, “We’ve got to do that.” Get to brainstorming. Go out and press the flesh. Take care.
